Jane Austen is one of my favorite authors, in fact, this blog could easily have been called Austen & Poe in Wonderland. It was a bit wordy and I wanted to focus more on an eclectic blend of topics. I know quite a bit about her life, and I’ve read a majority of her 6 novels (haven’t gotten around to Northanger Abbey). However, I freely admit I don’t know everything. Jane Austen was certainly unique in her time period and remains so today. I picked up 30-Day Journey with Jane Austen today. I bought it months ago but hadn’t read it. Well, I only made it through the introduction and day one of the book before I decided I HAD to share excerpts from it with you. If you enjoy history, hopefully, you’ll like these Austen facts. Fall is the time of year we gather inside with friends and family to share food and drinks by a fire, a table, or while watching a football game. You might serve hot tea with a twist or pour from a pitcher full of spiced sangria, but whatever drinks you choose let them be delicious ones! We’ve found 5 worthy recipes that are easy to make and could become your new favorite. Fall cocktails are here and we’re thinking it’s 5 0’clock somewhere! This post contains affiliate links. I came late to the party on “Hocus Pocos”. Watched it for the first time in 2019. I don’t always want to jump on the bandwagon for a movie simply because everyone else is. So, I resisted for years and could not understand the fever for the Sanderson Sisters. Once I watched it, I was hooked for life. I think we’ve seen it 3 times and will again before Halloween this year. I ran across this today online and thought it would be fun to post for future trivia nights. I fact checked the above and discovered that Garry Marshall who played the Devil was not one of the film’s directors. The movie came out in July to take advantage of kids being out of school. Everything else checked out. One of our favorite scenes – Amok! https://youtu.be/9qwEipKrV-0 Happy Hauntings and enjoy the spooky season!

If you’re like me, you might enjoy reading spooky stories all year round. If you only like to read them along with horror and supernatural ones during the Halloween season, we’ve found resources for you. Halloween reading is alive and well (yes, we said it). We found a Paste article listing the best 50 horror novels of all time, a fun Halloween book club you can join from a multitude of online places, and an intriguing novel we weren’t familiar with but will be ordering ASAP. If we love nothing at all, we do live for a good fairy tale! Have you lain awake at night wondering what the 50 best horror novels of all time are? No? Well neither have we, however, we were curious since it is October. Paste made a list in 2018 written by Steve Foxe and their staff and it’s pretty comprehensive. Yes, you can…

Fall is our favorite season in this house, and we’re excited about all of the fun things that come with it. Pumpkins and pumpkin bread make the season prettier and more flavorful. We recently found a recipe by Christina who writes A Homebody’s Adventures blog where she features what she enjoys about the comforts of home. Reading, cooking, baking, party planning inspiration, and more. We decided to try baking her pumpkin bread so Tom read to me while I baked. It’s an easy recipe and the ingredients – except for the puree – are probably in your pantry. It takes about 10 minutes to prep it and approximately 1 hour to cook. For us, it took me about 20 minutes to prep since Tom insisted on telling me all about particular parts of a book so I had to keep pausing to listen. Our oven baked it in 50 minutes.…

The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,And sorry I could not travel bothAnd be one traveler, long I stoodAnd looked down one as far as I couldTo where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair,And having perhaps the better claim,Because it was grassy and wanted wear;Though as for that the passing thereHad worn them really about the same, And both that morning equally layIn leaves no step had trodden black.Oh, I kept the first for another day!Yet knowing how way leads on to way,I doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a sighSomewhere ages and ages hence:Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—I took the one less traveled by,And that has made all the difference. Robert Frost in 1943.
