They say write what you know and like so I thought I’d share one of my favorite tv shows. Midsommer Murders is a British murder mystery series that’s been on the air since 1997 and still going strong. It’s the longest running contemporary detective drama in UK’s television history. If you love mysteries like me, you’ll enjoy it. With 22 seasons and well over 100 episodes, it’s a binge-worthy watch. Here’s a summary of the show from IMDB: Based on the crime-novel series by author Caroline Graham, `Midsomer Murders’ follows the efforts of Detective Chief Inspector John Barnaby to solve crimes that occur in the wealthy, isolated English county of Midsomer, a picturesque and peaceful place on the outside but one filled with amoral and snobbish eccentrics with all kinds of vices.  Pictured are Barry Jackson, John Nettles, and Lucy Punch. In honor of National Cat Day on October 29, 2021, we thought we’d feature black cats and their history in popular media. It’s one of our final Halloween posts of the year too. Our family has had the joy of 3 black kitties as family members. Raven, Thursday, and Binx Graham. This post contains affiliate links. Raven Graham Thursday Graham Binx Graham We volunteered at Furkids Animal Shelter for 11 years. It’s the largest cat shelter in the southeast. Black cats remain the least adoptable ones since superstitions still abound about them. Ours have all been wonderful with…

Marvelous Monday is here! The concept is simple and stress-free. I’m inviting my tea party friends – readers and friends – to post good things in their life on Mondays. Grab a macaroon and a cup of tea and join us. Or a cupcake. Whatever suits your fancy. Let’s dish! This week a strong cup of coffee will do as you might want to binge a Hulu series called Only Murders in the Building. Co-created by Steve Martin, it’s a murder mystery set in one of the key characters – a fancy apartment building in New York City known as the Arconia. This post contains affiliate links. Men in Kilts: A Roadtrip with Sam and Graham is a series on the Starz channel that features actors – Sam Heughan and Graham McTavish – from the show Outlander. For those that don’t know, Outlander tells the story of two lovers, their adventures in history, and time travel. Yes, based on the Diana Gabaldon novel it involves time travel. Scotland is a major player in the novel and tv show and this road trip series is about these actors exploring Scotland and all its traditions. It came out in March, I recorded it, and am only now watching it. You can probably find it on demand or online. The scenery is absolutely beautiful. This post contains affiliate links. We just wrapped watching the Umbrella Academy. Very sad to finish its 10 episodes, but it’s Netflix and you only get so many at a time. More fun than the first season. It’s a complex, time-bending story that forced us to rewind, pause, and discuss scenes quite frequently. Phones were used during the pauses for research. All of it was enjoyable and fun to process. What’s the show about? Here’s a primer on season1: Photo Credit: Forbes.com In 1989, 43 children were born with superpowers, seven of which were adopted by a mysterious and unyielding billionaire named Reginald Hargreeves (Colm Feore). Raised by the strict and abusive Reginald and a kind caretaking robot named Grace (Jordan Robbins) and a dapper walking, talking primate named Pogo, the seven Hargreaves children are forged into a dysfunctional superhero team called The Umbrella Academy. Rather than call them by their names, Reginald assigned them numbers…

Ever experience the phenomenon where a movie or tv show gets savaged by critics and Youtubers, but you really like it? Where reviewers pick apart plots, performances, timelines, and well really everything about a show? That would give you “Space Force” co-created by Greg Daniels and Steve Carrell who brought us the American version of “The Office”. We thought it was hysterical. Of course, I laugh at Carrell’s expression on award shows. He can be subtle and say so much with a look. In “Space Force” he finds himself in the middle of ridiculous situations and has to play them off like they can be saved. He’s the cheerleading captain for a team which constantly crashes into themselves or the ground yet keep trying. https://youtu.be/l4mY2asIjWk The amount of talent in the cast is amazing: Steve Carrell, Lisa Kudrow, John Malkovich, Jimmy O. Yang, Fred Willard, and more. It’s funny to…

Need a new binge series on Netflix? Check out Locke and Key which debuted in early February. My 12 year old and I really enjoyed it. Based on the graphic novel series (2008 – 2013) by Joe Hill and illustrator Gabriel Rodriquez. The written series is darker and more ghoulish and not surprising since the writer is related to none other then Stephen King. Yes, his son – Joseph Hillström King – writes under “Joe Hill”. Rodriquez is a Chilean artist who started out with an architectural degree. The tv series is a lighter version of their novels. A supernatural one my tween can watch. https://youtu.be/_EonRi0yQOE The show’s synopsis reads: “After their father is murdered under mysterious circumstances, the three Locke siblings and their mother move into their ancestral home, Keyhouse, which they discover is full of magical keys that may be connected to their father’s death. As the Locke children explore the different keys…
