If you’re into outsider and folk art, then Howard Finster’s Paradise Garden in Summerville, Georgia is where you want to be. The Reverend Finster was a prolific artist who produced over 46,000 works in his lifetime. There’s a 4-acre property or garden dedicated to his work complete with a museum and fabulous gift shop. We wrote an article on him earlier in the blog Howard Finster “the Grandfather of Southern Folk Art” where you can read all about him and see some of his art. This year marks the bicentennial of the birth of Virginia Clemm Poe famous wife of Edgar Allan Poe. Her life is a bit of mystery. March is International Women’s Month and the perfect one to talk about Mrs. Poe. In conjunction with  the Maryland Women’s Heritage Center and Edgar Allan Poe House and Museum / Poe Baltimore there’s a presentation today, March 15, to discuss her life. Valentine’s Day is almost here and there are plenty of songs about love to listen to, but how about those songs you might not have thought of? Our friend Miranda has a fabulous blog Spooky Little Halloween.com where she celebrates Halloween 365 days a year. You can take the Edgar Allan Poe Death in Baltimore Bus Tour with a 90-minute ride around the town. “Explore the enduring mystery of Poe’s tragic death on a special Bus Tour of Edgar Allan Poe’s Life and Death in Baltimore. In the Ansley Park neighborhood of Atlanta, Georgia, there’s a gallery open to the public that specializes in photography. The Atlanta Photography Group is a non-profit membership organization and its mission is to promote a love of photography and to support the photography community. The gallery showcases selected works of their member artists. It’s free and open to the public. Exhibits start out with first-night shows and then are displayed for a period of time for you to visit and see them up close and personal. Images are available for purchase and you may find a new artist you love. The gallery is a key piece of this overall organization. I feel a lot like the white rabbit from Alice in Wonderland running all around and out of time for most everything. I am a little late in telling you about a fabulous festival that’s held every year in Atlanta where the arts community showcases the power of photography in our lives. The month of October in Atlanta has an exciting event known as the Atlanta Celebrates Photography Festival (ACPFest). Artists from around the southeast contribute work that’s displayed in exhibitions held just about anywhere around town. Georgia State University, the Atlanta Photography Group Gallery, the heart of Midtown with a mural, art galleries, public art spaces, libraries, shop windows – so many shows to see.
