Ann Marie Eleazer weaves magic with her poetry and vivid imagery. I discovered her work through Instagram one day and have been a dedicated follower ever since. She works under the name She's Magic and Midnight Lace. I have a deep love of poetry and really words themselves, and when you intertwine them with images of fairy tales, villains, and haunted scenes, then you've hooked me. She does all of this, and in so doing, creates a world you fall into willingly. I've had the great fortune of interviewing her for this post and using her images to introduce you to her.
What do you consider your primary inspiration or inspirations?
My inspirations are drawn from so many things. I began writing a little over three years ago following a major personal change in my life. I found my voice. And that voice carries with it the fairytales that I found myself lost in as a child; my darkness, which I’ve come to embrace, rather than reject and my most intimate passions and he who stokes them.
How often do you write and what time of day inspires you the most?
I write every day. During a quiet afternoon or into the nighttime hours. Whenever inspiration strikes.
What is your favorite fairytale and why?
I’ve so many. Fairytales, especially the dark ones, have called to me for as long as I can remember. My most favorite is Beauty & the Beast. I’ve always been drawn to the beast that simmers just below the edge of a man’s soul. That which he only shows to his truest love. It’s so very true to never judge a book by its cover, for you never know what lies beneath.
Who is your favorite villain or hero with a dark past?
Maleficent.
Poe in Wonderland: She's one of my favorites as well. I always wondered about the back story and why she turned dark. Loved the way she was portrayed in the first Angelina Jolie movie. The real tale of Sleeping Beauty is much darker.
Who is your favorite writer or poet? You can have more than one.
I’ve so many and we would be here most of the night if I tried to name them all. My favorites begin and end with magic, a dark fairytale, a good suspenseful love story; where the beauty saves the beast and the red goddess and the wolf fall in love…anything dark, witchy and enchanted. I do want to acknowledge Skye Meyers and Amanda Lovelace, both authors and poets, who were my greatest inspiration in beginning my own writing journey. They will always be two of my favorites.
What would you like those who read and see your work to know?
I want my readers to know that everything I write comes from a place deep within; from my heart and my soul. Even down to the very words I use…if I don’t believe them, I don’t write them. I hope to inspire people, to touch people’s lives; to connect to their emotions. It’s always been difficult for me to verbally express myself; writing is my creative outlet and I love putting into words what myself and many others wouldn’t likely say out loud. And always, always do what you’re called to do even if you think you can’t do it. You can absolutely do anything you set your heart, mind and soul to.
