Fall is our favorite season in this house, and we’re excited about all of the fun things that come with it. Pumpkins and pumpkin bread make the season prettier and more flavorful. We recently found a recipe by Christina who writes A Homebody’s Adventures blog where she features what she enjoys about the comforts of home. Reading, cooking, baking, party planning inspiration, and more. We decided to try baking her pumpkin bread so Tom read to me while I baked. It’s an easy recipe and the ingredients – except for the puree – are probably in your pantry. It takes about 10 minutes to prep it and approximately 1 hour to cook. For us, it took me about 20 minutes to prep since Tom insisted on telling me all about particular parts of a book so I had to keep pausing to listen. Our oven baked it in 50 minutes.…
Cocktails are a major part of any night out or party. Halloween is the perfect time of year to try new ones. I am a vodka girl at heart, but I do love color and style in a good drink. I found 7 Halloween cocktails that are made of ingredients you probably have in your home or they’re easy to pick up whenever you’re out running errands. Most of these are from Delish.com. Parties will be hard to attend this year with the state the world is in, however it doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy cocktails with family and friends via a good Zoom session or small-scale event, right? Or simply mix yourself one while you watch your favorite horror film. This post contains affiliate links. Who misses “Stranger Things” the series besides me? It’s hard to wait a year every year until July 4th to see the new season, but more so now since we don’t know when we’ll get the next one. I DO know there’s a strong possibility they may have started filming again in Atlanta, Georgia, which is where they’ve filmed a lot of the show. While we wait we can try a new cocktail inspired by Milly Bobby Brown’s character “Eleven”. I recently found a fantastic Halloween blog created by Miranda called SpookyLittleHalloween.com . This cocktail and post is featured on her blog so I am merely passing it along. As part of my Halloween page’s content, I will be featuring her story the first week of October. Please visit her blog and read her posts about decorating, recipes, party ideas, and more. Stranger Things Cocktail: The Eleven Whether you’re recharging…

Atlanta’s Rhodes Family Bakery has been serving incredible baked goods since 1930. The founder of the bakery Magdaline Rhodes, an Atlanta native, began baking and selling desserts out of her home after the Stock Market Crash of 1929 and the advent of the Great Depression. Our family loves their cakes (and cheese straws) and each one of us looks forward to our birthday cakes. We talk about designs we’ve thought of at least a month out! My husband and I have spent the past 8 years keeping our birthday decorating ideas for each other a surprise, and Rhodes has never let us down. This post contains affiliate links. Tried a Thai and Chinese restaurant this week I’ve heard about forever while living in Atlanta. Little Bangkok is located down on Cheshire Bridge Road in a small strip mall. It’s over 20 years old now and has a pretty loyal following. The first thing you need to know is that parking is tight. I bypassed the lot because people literally double park to fit in the space. I parked next door risking a tow truck since it was only for lunch. The restaurant is more traditionally decorated with Thai posters and menus on the walls. I sat in a booth surrounded by a crowd consisting of diners in suits obviously on their lunch hour, friends having lunch, and older couples. Nice atmosphere. I ordered their Tom Ka soup to start. It was different from what I normally expect when it comes to this dish. A little thicker and a…
Welcome to December. So far in Atlanta, Georgia it’s been a mixture of fall weather in the ’60’s to winter the past two days in the ’40’s. The south doesn’t always make its mind up about the weather! John and I were lucky enough to travel down to Charleston, South Carolina for one night in late November. The Lowcountry as it’s called is one of my favorite places. I am from South Carolina and it feels like home. We stayed on King Street about two blocks from the city market. Before I travel, I like to research restaurants for all of our meals. And, I don’t mean look up a few. I deep dive into cross referencing places. I went to TripAdvisor first and pulled up top…
View of Lake Lucerne from Alcove Coffeehouse 4615 Stone Mountain Hwy, Suite B, Lilburn, Georgia One of my favorite places to hang out while I work is Alcove Coffeehouse in Lilburn. I’ve been going since they’ve moved locations over the years. First, in Tucker on Idlewood Rd, then on Lavista Rd near the Mellow Mushroom, and now in their current spot on Lake Lucerne. The view is gorgeous from the windows as you work on your laptop, read or chat with friends. [envira-gallery id=’2587′] It’s fairly quiet in the morning to midday. Alcove is independently owned and serves specialty coffee roasted in Atlanta along with their delicious teas. If you’re peckish, they offer pastries, sandwiches, salads, and snacks. I usually order a scone with a chai and perch by the big windows facing the lake. The staff are warm, polite, and they get to the point after a few visits where they know…
the Queen of Creole CuisineThe New Orleans Advocate staff photo by Mark Becherer New Orleans, Louisiana, is one of the most fascinating places I’ve been to. I’m a fairly new visitor since I’ve only been going since 2000. Been on maybe a half dozen trips and mainly done tourist activities. I’ve read about it all my life. It helps if you have a love of ghost stories and history and get obsessed with architecture. You can find all of that there. And that’s without touching on the food. The food. Liz M., a friend of mine, who is from New Orleans recently shared this article on Facebook. Leah Chase sounds like an extraordinary human being. I wish I’d had the chance to meet her. She changed her life and the world around her and there are generations who will remember her and what she did. And in such simple, meaningful ways. Her work…
