A partially abandoned building stood on a wide block of real estate on historic Ponce de Leon Avenue in Atlanta for decades. It had been through numerous reincarnations. Vandalized and in major disrepair, it stood. I’d pass it several times a day going to work, and then later shopping or riding with my kiddos. I saw it as a hulking behemoth with an Atlanta police station and lots of broken windows next to what was known as the “Murder Kroger” for reasons evident in its name. Only a few not a lot, but I digress. Development came along “Ponce”, and Ponce City Market was born. Even after celebrating my 50th birthday on the rooftop at the market, I still cannot believe it’s there born out of the messy place that it was. This post contains affiliate links. Goats on the Roof in Tiger, Georgia, is fun for all ages. Travel north outside Atlanta towards the mountains, and you’ll happen upon GOTR on your left. Can’t miss goats standing on roofs! We first read about it years ago in a parenting magazine but never went. This post contains affiliate links. If you click a link and make a purchase, Poe in Wonderland will earn asmall commission for the referral at no cost to you One summer day we hopped in the car and headed up. You’ll also pass the bus graveyard on your way to the goat attraction. It’s a big collection of abandoned buses that have now been artistically decorated and adorned. But, we digress. The goats venue sits on a corner on the way into the town of Tiger. You pull into a gravel parking lot and you can clearly see all the goats mulling about…

Charleston in the spring is glory to behold. Flowers are blooming, the weather is warm, dining outdoors is heaven at night, and you get to experience the lowcountry at its best. We took a family trip the first weekend in May. It was a mixed bag of good and bad experiences, but wouldn’t trade it for anything. This post contains affiliate links. We’ve been visiting Charleston for over 33 years and the majority of those visits have been wonderful, however, the start of this particular trip was a disaster. I never post negative things because that isn’t what this blog is about, but sometimes it’s necessary. I reserved our stay in plenty of time. We arrived…

I took the Tell-Tale Heart Richmond tour today that we talked about earlier this week. It was a livestream event created via a partnership between the Poe Museum and Heygo.com. I’d never used Heygo and have to say I may be hooked if their other tours are as entertaining. I signed up for this particular event because it was about places around Richmond to visit that were there in Poe’s day. Dean Knight, Programs Coordinator at the museum and a theatre actor, did an excellent job. He’s also a tour guide in the city so fun to listen to since he entertains you with facts and recites poetry. Can’t go wrong with that combination! You still have time to take the Tell-Tale Heart tour on Thursday, April 22nd, at 3 PM EST. Highly recommend it! Heygo connects people from around the world through tours where they can log into their…

As part of my birthday this year, we traveled to an amazing VRBO home in Sky Valley, Georgia. Big fans and frequent visitors of the north Georgia mountains we hadn’t been to this particular corner. Sky Valley is the highest city in the state and borders North Carolina. I took pictures of the scenic overlook on the way to the house and the overlook was 3,100+ feet! We drove up a road leading to a higher elevation to reach our destination. Whoosh! [envira-gallery id=’8378′] Birds Nest VRBO Stunning mountain getaway as words that accurately describe the property we rented. We were thrilled. I cannot imagine not living there year round if I was fortunate enough to own it. It’s quiet and serene and gorgeous where the home is located. And, you can drive to restaurants and stores within 20 minutes in Dillard or skip over to North Carolina. [envira-gallery id=’8387′]…

Captain Tom Moore, a beloved United Kingdom (UK) icon, passed away on February 2, 2021. A British World War II veteran, he was at home in April 2020, when he started a fundraising effort that grew to a worldwide phenomenon. The UK was in the midst of a dark time with a national lockdown of homes and businesses due to the pandemic, and since Captain Tom Moore was grateful for his recent care during hospital stays he wanted to raise money and spirits of the National Health Services (NHS). Captain Tom would begin a 24-day campaign branded “Tom’s 100th Birthday Walk for the NHS”. The funds would go to NHS Charities Together which supports the NHS. Photo Credit: BBC.com “When we started off with this exercise we didn’t anticipate we’d get anything near that sort of money. It’s really amazing. All of them, from top to bottom, in the National…

Have you ever seen a coyote and badger hang out, play, and travel together? Well, neither had we until now. Peninsula Open Space and Trust is an organization in California that preserves and protects open space in San Mateo, Santa Clara, and Santa Cruz counties. In February 2020, they captured extraordinary footage of two species working and playing together and the video went viral. We loved the video and found others on their site. Animals in the wild without human interaction are fascinating to watch. Posting this for fun and entertainment on our blog. Visit POST to learn more about their efforts, partners, and contributions to the environment. Coyote and Badger: More Friendship (and Waddles) in Extended Video – California Wildlife Camera https://youtu.be/mGyHlYPupHg In this extended video cut, we see these two were together for more than an hour and possibly even longer.
