My Supernatural shirt from Stands arrived today and I am so excited to wear it! Supernatural’s stars regularly use show logos and characters in STANDS merchandise to support non-profits and communities. In the past, they’ve raised money for hunger, hurricane relief, pandemic support, and suicide awareness. Kim Rhodes who played Sheriff Jody Mills for several seasons teamed up and promoted these awesome shirts in addition to more merchandise, this campaign’s proceeds helped support an equine-therapy organization. I get alerts on merchandise whenever it becomes available. Love wearing fun shirts and it feels even better when you helped an organization out! Support Your Local Murder? What are we talking about here? It’s a play on words and imagery. The average person might be appalled and think you literally mean “murder”, but you don’t. Crows in a group are called by the ancient term “A Murder of Crows”. It’s a fun way to tie-in…

Need a new binge series on Netflix? Check out Locke and Key which debuted in early February. My 12 year old and I really enjoyed it. Based on the graphic novel series (2008 – 2013) by Joe Hill and illustrator Gabriel Rodriquez. The written series is darker and more ghoulish and not surprising since the writer is related to none other then Stephen King. Yes, his son – Joseph Hillström King – writes under “Joe Hill”. Rodriquez is a Chilean artist who started out with an architectural degree. The tv series is a lighter version of their novels. A supernatural one my tween can watch. https://youtu.be/_EonRi0yQOE The show’s synopsis reads: “After their father is murdered under mysterious circumstances, the three Locke siblings and their mother move into their ancestral home, Keyhouse, which they discover is full of magical keys that may be connected to their father’s death. As the Locke children explore the different keys…

If you’ve ever visited the Poe Museum in Richmond, then you’ve walked up to the bust of Poe featured in their brick pergola. Located in the Enchanted Garden. But, did you know it’s not the original bust and the statue went for a stroll in 1987, aptly in the month of October? Chris Semtner, the museum’s curator, tells the tale below. The images (2018) are ones I took of the actual gifted bust to the museum which they now safely keep inside. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gf5DoYUozeQ Video credit: The Poe Museum Photo Credit: Jennifer Graham Photo Credit: Jennifer Graham

The Japanese word describes piling up books to save for later … even if you’ll never actually read them. “Even when reading is impossible, the presence of books acquired produces such an ecstasy that the buying of more books than one can read is nothing less than the soul reaching towards infinity.” – A. Edward Newton, author, publisher, and collector of 10,000 books. Are you one of us? A master of tsundoku? Mine takes the shape of the aspirational stack by my bedside table – because I am going to read every night before bed, of course, and upon waking on the weekends. Hahaha. My tsundoku also takes shape in cookbooks … even though I rarely cook from recipes. And I think I most fervently practice tsundoku when I buy three or four novels to pile in my suitcase for a five-day vacation. Sometimes not even one sees its spine…

My trip is booked and tickets purchased for one of the exciting events of the year – at least for Poe lovers. Every year the Poe Museum in Richmond throws a huge party for the poet’s birthday. People come from all over to attend. In the beginning, staff and volunteers hosted the party for 24 hours. Let that sink in for a second. The curator told me they would bring mattresses or bedding and sleep on the floor in some of the buildings awaiting visitors. But, in the wee hours no one was visiting so they changed to a 12 hour format. I made it 6 1/2 hours on my first try, however, I flew in for the day and night and didn’t arrive in the city in enough time to stay the full length of the event. This year I am working with a strategy, including a trolley tour…

View of Lake Lucerne from Alcove Coffeehouse 4615 Stone Mountain Hwy, Suite B, Lilburn, Georgia One of my favorite places to hang out while I work is Alcove Coffeehouse in Lilburn. I’ve been going since they’ve moved locations over the years. First, in Tucker on Idlewood Rd, then on Lavista Rd near the Mellow Mushroom, and now in their current spot on Lake Lucerne. The view is gorgeous from the windows as you work on your laptop, read or chat with friends. [envira-gallery id=’2587′] It’s fairly quiet in the morning to midday. Alcove is independently owned and serves specialty coffee roasted in Atlanta along with their delicious teas. If you’re peckish, they offer pastries, sandwiches, salads, and snacks. I usually order a scone with a chai and perch by the big windows facing the lake. The staff are warm, polite, and they get to the point after a few visits where they know…

Whether you were strolling down the Beltline, biking through the Krog Tunnel, or standing in front of the dazzling lights at the Fox Theatre, it’s hard to forget the magic that you felt when you spotted your first Tiny Door. The doors are the work of artist Karen Anderson Singer, who started the project in her own neighborhood of Reynoldstown in 2014. Singer, a street artist and sculptor who holds a degree in visual art from Rutgers University, wanted to create a project which would respect and reflect what makes Atlanta unique. What started with a single door and a mission statement to “bring big wonder to tiny spaces” has grown into a movement. Tiny Doors ATL’s Instagram account now boasts over 100,000 followers and has inspired projects all over the world. Singer’s project has been featured by media outlets like O Magazine, NPR, and CBS Sunday Morning. So what’s the story you haven’t already…
