Five good things in our lives are what I am committing to remember about each week in 2021. The past year has been a difficult one world-wide. There's a lot of negative news and you can dwell on it. I am going to try to celebrate little things even more than I normally would. Practice seeking the good news in life. So, I am sharing my five joys from last week, and I hope you'll share yours too.

Celebrated my mom’s birthday with a seafood lunch and a chocolate fudge cake. We celebrate birthdays in our family with the meal of their choice, cake, candles, a balloon, and singing. No balloons at the moment but always with the Happy Birthday song, whether you’re a toddler or 90 you have to sing it. It’s tradition.

Donated 3 items to a Buy Nothing group in my neighborhood. My favorite gift to give this time was a graphic novel in excellent condition that a member truly wanted for his collection. It was a title he’d been looking for and it felt good to give to him. I love and am obsessed with books so I completely understood his excitement about receiving the gift.

The Wytches book from our Halloween Book Club.

Wytches was my first graphic novel. It's a horror tale with amazing illustrations. I found it through
The Halloween Book Club.

The Poe Museum celebrated his 212th birthday with its Annual Poe Bash It was an awesome finale to the week watching their live streaming programs on Facebook and Youtube. They also offered virtual ticketed tours. I usually fly to Richmond for the event and stay at a fabulous hotel for the weekend. Here’s hoping everyone can celebrate in person in 2022!

Cooked lime avocado chicken soup and baked pumpkin bread. Both delicious recipes found through A Homebody’s Adventures blog with Christina. The second time I’ve used the recipes and wonderful each time.

Hung out with my furry little friend every day. I’ve lived with cats my entire life. In all my time with them, I never had a tortoiseshell one. Mine is extremely loving (translate clingy), intelligent, and hilarious. She rolls over in a blink and shows her beautiful tortie belly for rubs. Never seen a cat do that before – just like a dog. She’s a rescue cat from an organization we’ve volunteered with for over a decade: Furkids Rescue and Animal Shelter.

Gorgeous tortoiseshell cat looking up at you.

  1. I had no idea there was a Poe Museum in Richmond. I live about 1:30 north of there and actually used to spend quite a bit of time in Richmond when I was living the corporate life. Wonder if my kiddo would ever be interested in checking it out? This is good to know!

  2. Hi, Linda. It’s a wonderful place! The staff and volunteers are kind and answer any questions you may have about him. I enjoy the tours they hold at the Birthday Bash each year in addition to the ones you can virtually do now. I love their gift shop because it has a lot to choose from and unique things. They just did a funny video on it the other day that I believe is posted on their Facebook page. Hope you do visit – as safe as can be nowadays – and go again when everything in the world is open.
