My Supernatural shirt from Stands arrived today and I am so excited to wear it! Supernatural’s stars regularly use show logos and characters in STANDS merchandise to support non-profits and communities. In the past, they’ve raised money for hunger, hurricane relief, pandemic support, and suicide awareness. Kim Rhodes who played Sheriff Jody Mills for several seasons teamed up and promoted these awesome shirts in addition to more merchandise, this campaign’s proceeds helped support an equine-therapy organization. I get alerts on merchandise whenever it becomes available. Love wearing fun shirts and it feels even better when you helped an organization out! Support Your Local Murder? What are we talking about here? It’s a play on words and imagery. The average person might be appalled and think you literally mean “murder”, but you don’t. Crows in a group are called by the ancient term “A Murder of Crows”. It’s a fun way to tie-in…

Businesses every day are struggling and quickly adapting their operations to survive in the Coronavirus pandemic. If you’re not an essential worker, you are probably quarantining yourself and loved ones at home. You might be online and worried about your favorite business or organization making the cut with tough times. Wondering how you can help them. Turns out employers and employees are finding creative ways to support themselves and YOU can make a difference. Virtual shopping can be both a lifesaver and fun. Creekwater Alpaca Farm in Snellville, Georgia One of our favorite places to visit is Creekwater Alpaca Farm located right outside Atlanta. It’s a fantastic place with alpacas, pigs, rabbits, a LOUD rooster, quinea fowl, goats, and the caretakers who love it. They were really hit hard and facing an animal food shortage so they started a GoFundMe campaign. Then, they began to offer Zoom barn tours. We…

Pounce Cat Cafe was started by 2 best friends who wanted to save cats from the streets and do it in style as a place for both cats and humans to mingle and fall in love. Pounce Cat Cafe + Wine Bar is a great place to visit with 2 locations: Charleston and Savannah. Rescue cats live at their locations and you can visit and enjoy a beverage while picking out a new bestie or simply socialize and have fun. The boys and I had a really nice time last year on spring break at their Charleston spot. They are struggling like all small businesses. One of the ways you can support them is to order merchandise, if not for you, for your kiddos or to cheer someone up during these dark days. Personally, I like the wine coffee mug, cat ears, and sweet beanie. I just wish it got…

Happy New Year! I hope your 2020 is off to a great start. I am inspired by all the creative resolutions I see floating around the web. All the good things that I want to focus on this year. Life will be full of drama, but I want to live with a positive mindset and hope for the best every day. I’ve never been a big one to draw up new year resolutions. For decades I went with the one from St. Elmo’s Fire – “To fix everything in my life that isn’t working”/Wendy. This year I want to think more along the lines of activities or steps to make one feel good. Not the cliched ones like join a new gym and lose 50 lbs! Less blaring noise and more get outside and see the world and create a better world for yourself indoors. Be less afraid and start the business…

Excited and thankful to be a part of VoyageATL magazine’s series: What’s the Most Important Lesson You’ve Learned Along Your Journey? The magazine’s mission is to value communities, small businesses, and artists. Mom and pops. I posted a photo of the boutique hotel we stayed in this past June in Savannah as part of a blog post. VoyageATL saw it and asked to publish it as part of a series about artists. When you click on the series page, I am lucky #13. So honored to be part of it!! “Accordingly our mission is to build a platform that fosters collaboration and support for small businesses, independent artists and entrepreneurs, local institutions and those that make our city interesting. We want to change the way people spend their money – rather than spending it with the big, cookie-cutter corporations we want them to spend their money with the independent, creative,…

the Queen of Creole CuisineThe New Orleans Advocate staff photo by Mark Becherer New Orleans, Louisiana, is one of the most fascinating places I’ve been to. I’m a fairly new visitor since I’ve only been going since 2000. Been on maybe a half dozen trips and mainly done tourist activities. I’ve read about it all my life. It helps if you have a love of ghost stories and history and get obsessed with architecture. You can find all of that there. And that’s without touching on the food. The food. Liz M., a friend of mine, who is from New Orleans recently shared this article on Facebook. Leah Chase sounds like an extraordinary human being. I wish I’d had the chance to meet her. She changed her life and the world around her and there are generations who will remember her and what she did. And in such simple, meaningful ways. Her work…

https://youtu.be/S3vO8E2e6G0 My friend and I saw Rocketman this past Monday, the bio pic about Elton John. My pivotal years – middle and high school – were in the ‘80’s and I was aware of some of his story but didn’t know about his early years. Of course, then you didn’t have the internet so you couldn’t exactly deep dive into his life. My whole life has had his music in the background. The way the film intersperses his music with his story is fantastic. It’s campy at times. It is Elton John known for his duck suit, baseball uniforms, overalls, dresses, and wild outfits so you can expect this. And, his signature glasses. The glasses cover a lot of emotion in the film. Quite devastating at times. I never knew he was a child prodigy. It’s jaw dropping to learn about his childhood in more ways than one. I won’t…
