On a bright, sunny day in July, a long reigning queen and an 100 year old gentleman met for a very happy occasion. Captain Tom Moore, a 100 year old WWII veteran, is a true inspiration to the world. He pledged to walk 100 laps around his garden to raise 1,000 BP for the National Health Service (NHS) with expenses as the coranavirus raged across the United Kingdom. He ended up raising more than 32,000,000 BP which translates to $40 M+ in American dollars. A remarkable and dedicated feat for a man and his walker to do. We wrote about his efforts in an earlier post because his story brought us such joy. “I am absolutely overawed,” he said, “This is such a high award and to get it from Her Majesty as well – what more can anyone wish for? This has been an absolutely magnificent day for me.”…

Visiting a hair salon during the COVID-19 outbreak is daunting. All of us our showing our natural roots these days. Neighbors, family, and strangers out and about. In a way, it’s freeing. Time saved getting your hair cut and colored and learning to let go of some of your vanity. However, I like my hair colored and have since I was 25 and started to go prematurely gray. I was lucky enough to get my color done in late February right before the March shutdown of everything. I cautiously went in yesterday to get my hair done. It was a good experience. If you’d like to see what my hair looked like before yesterday, you can see it in my prior post. My husband cut it in April since I could not stand the grow out stage. Definitely looks better today! I’ve been with the same stylist for 17 1/2…

I was searching for a way to add to the world-wide cultural tsunami happening in real time. George Floyd’s death was horrific and did not need to happen. The lives of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Philando Castile, and many more should not have ended. Black Lives DO Matter. Mothers and fathers around the world give birth or adopt babies with the utmost love and desire for them to succeed and not be a statistic. I am supporting Black Lives Matter. I do support police who make a difference – the ones who want to help people and make positive change in communities. I AM against systemic racism wherever it exists, most especially within policing and the court system. I don’t know the answers. I wish I did. I am listening. I am observing. My husband and I are having clear conversations with our teens. We want them to see everything…

I love to find unique gifts. Etsy is a perennial favorite and our home is full of hand crafted items. Art, jewelry, apparel, you name it. We’ve bought them as gifts for almost any occasion and treated ourselves too. I was fortunate in the past couple of months to order 2 unique and custom pieces of jewelry for myself. A 3 stacked beaded bracelet set and a longed for skull ring. Purely by serendipity I found both artists through Instagram friends. I am learning Instagram can be a cool place to uncover ideas for gifts and most people are happy to share where they find items. I wanted to dispel negative energy and situations around me while strengthening myself too. Bracelets…

It’s really not for the faint of heart. It’s scary, fun, but exhilarating. However, being a horror and dark genre fan is awesome because it creates a life of thrill when one is interacting with horror-themed “things” throughout their lives. Unfortunately, with the exception of Halloween, there are no major horror-themed occasions where you can give yourself the chance to find awesome gifts for horror fans! That reflects in the buyer-seller market as a scarcity in even the most mediocre horror and dark genre gifts…usually staying as such! However today, we are changing all that, because we have done a tremendous amount of research to bring the best horror and dark genre gift ideas (legally) available to…

Two of the best ways you can social distance today are hiking and walking. Jack, Tom, and I have been exploring new trails and revisiting favorite ones. The wildlife has been plentiful and exciting to watch. I love the smell of trees and flowers in the woods and parks. The number of other walkers varies on the trails, and I’ll note what we experienced out and about. Lake AvondaleAvondale Estates NeighborhoodIt’s an easy walk around the lake with a paved trail. You can wander to parts along the lake to peer into the water or stand and take pictures off the trail. We always see turtles, ducks, and geese. Early May we had a good time when we went before lunch. Less walkers and people were conscientious about distance between guests. The lake is well marked with directional signs to keep everyone moving in the same direction and reminders to…

Restaurants are finding creative, sometimes extraordinary ways to continue serving diners during this world-wide pandemic while still staying afloat. Mediamatic ETEN is a vegan restaurant located in a greenhouse alongside an Amsterdam river. They are trying out a unique concept and waiting on permission from the government to hopefully continue it until it’s safe to reopen the full space. Diners sit outside in tiny waterfront greenhouses and staff serve their meals on a long plank thus allowing for social distancing. Looks like a clever way to dine and in a scenic spot. We found out about this new dining idea through Secret LA in an article by Ashlyn Davis. Everyone at some point has inevitably taken a pair of shears and clipped a tiny bit of hair off. Trim a bang, tame a cowlick, or cut that one tiny hair that won’t lay down despite every hair product in the world. Self haircuts are popping up all over social media. What can you do when a pandemic takes over the world and you’re sheltering in place? No hair salon or barber. Do it at home. We had two at home haircuts in this family, however I am only allowed to show you one. Jack, our 15 year old, refuses to show his images. Hate it too because it was the first one I ever did as a mom. But, I get to keep the pictures for myself so that’s what counts the most. He likes his cut just being a teen and not wanting those shots out there! Here…
