I recently conducted an informal survey asking my friends what they like to listen to and if they had favorite podcasts. Popular question since I got a great response. It's cool to find out what subjects your friends like to listen to – gives you a little insight into their interests and good ideas about what shows are out there. As the title states, I'll be covering their favorite podcasts, HOWEVER, there were so many that I may post about this again soon. Good problem to have, huh? So, I'll break the list up into a series to avoid a never-ending single post. The categories are Trashy Fun, Comedy, Murder and True Crime, Supernatural and Bizarre, Racial Injustice, History, Book Reviewers, Film, and Dolly Parton's America.

Simply put, a podcast is an audio program, just like Talk Radio, but you subscribe to it on your smartphone and listen to it whenever you like. In a little more detail, a podcast is a series of spoken word, audio episodes, all focused on a particular topic or theme, like cycling or startups. You can subscribe to the show with an app on your phone and listen to episodes whenever you like on your headphones, in the car or through speakers.

So, without further adieu our first category!

Trashy Fun

Scene from the show Sex and the City.

I'm a Bravo addict and not ashamed to admit it. I need some ridiculous, over the top, fluff to stare at and judge at the end of the day. Designer outfits I can watch and not worry about buying, shoes I'd get an injury in, and lifestyles you and I can only imagine (and may or may not want). It's not physics, but it is fun. Unless you're on a reality show and things don't go your way and in that case perhaps this isn't what you should've signed up for? But, I digress. Here's the FUN!

Pink Shade – A Taste of Reality
I regularly listen to Pink Shade to catch up on my Real Housewives, Southern Charm, and Married to Medicine shows. If you're into all things reality tv, then Pink Shade is ideal for you. Erin Martin and Mary Payne Gilbert are 2 podcasters that joined forces to create 1 big pod to cover shows from Bravo, WE, TLC, Lifetime, and more. Erin Martin started Pink Shade after teaching high school English for 15 years and blogging on the side. She guest-starred on the “Jenny McCarthy Show” on Sirius XM to discuss Real Housewives, and recapped shows on RealityTea. Mary Payne Gilbert hosted the podcast “A Payne in the Pod”. They met via social media and bonded over their love and snark of reality television. A sampling of the shows covered include:

90 Day Fiance
Real Housewives
Below Deck
Vanderpump Rules
Southern Charm
Shahs of Sunset

They have a private Facebook group you can ask to join. Must be prone to snarky talk and judgemental about reality shows! Pink Shade Facebook
