Recently, my friends came through when I asked them about their favorite podcasts. I have only been into podcasts for the past year. Didn't care for them at first, but now I regularly listen to a few. I received so many recommendations that I am breaking them down into a series of posts. Good problem to have, huh? So, I’ll break the list up to avoid a never-ending single post. The categories are Trashy Fun, Comedy, Murder and True Crime, Supernatural and Bizarre, Racial Injustice, History, Book Reviewers, Film, and Dolly Parton’s America.
Podcast definition
Simply put, a podcast is an audio programme, just like Talk Radio, but you subscribe to it on your smartphone and listen to it whenever you like. In a little more detail, a podcast is a series of spoken word, audio episodes, all focused on a particular topic or theme, like cycling or startups. You can subscribe to the show with an app on your phone and listen to episodes whenever you like on your headphones, in the car or through speakers.

Our second category: Murder and True Crime
“A top 10 regular on iTunes’ comedy podcast chart, My Favorite Murder has been featured in Entertainment Weekly, The Atlantic, Nylon and Rolling Stone magazine.” Source: MyFavotiteMurder.com
What happens when you put a stand-up comedian/writer and another writer/Cooking Channel host together who have a passion for true crime? An extremely popular podcast blending comedy, crime, pop culture, and horrible facts. Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark began My Favorite Murder in 2016 and it's since broken download records in addition to inspiring a huge following. Their fan base likes to call themselves the “Murderinos” and they turn out in large numbers for podcast events. The name is based on a remark made by Ned Flanders on “The Simpsons” tv comedy show.
Their shows sell out and there's a lot of merchandise available plus a book about the podcast.
If you like the ID channel with comedy mixed in, try this podcast, read about them, and check out their website.

A PODCAST EXPLORING THE DARK UNDERBELLY OF THE DEEP SOUTH
Southern Fried True Crime, hosted by Erica Kelley, examines real-life crimes – murder or otherwise – and fills you in on the history and gossip surrounding them. She takes a case and builds her stories around them in a relatable storytelling style. She covers modern true crime and delves into historical ones too.
““I'm a native Tennessean exploring true crime in the South. I love history, gossip and crime. And I love to tell stories. This isn't a clinical analysis of cases, but a look at the interesting parts…in layman's terms. And I am a podcast junkie and patron myself so I know what it's like to appreciate good content. It makes me want to work so much harder, doing something I love. Thank you so much for your interest and support! It truly makes a difference for independent podcasts.” Erica Kelley
I'm from South Carolina, and although I live in Georgia now, I travel to Charleston several times a year. I'm a ghost junkie and know Charleston's ghost stories well. The tale of Lavinia Fisher is one of a murderous innkeeper who lived over 200 years ago. I was excited to see her case reviewed by Southern Fried True Crime. She was hanged for her crimes which was more rare in her day. Her tale is legendary in the south. The podcast covers a modern day mythical tale too with The Corpeswood Manor Murders from northern Georgia.
These 2 podcasts were the most mentioned in my survey, but you can read about many more from CrimeCapsule.Com.
