I recently conducted an informal survey asking my friends what they like to listen to and if they had favorite podcasts. Popular question since I got a great response. It’s cool to find out what subjects your friends like to listen to – gives you a little insight into their interests and good ideas about what shows are out there. As the title states, I’ll be covering their favorite podcasts, HOWEVER, there were so many that I may post about this again soon. Good problem to have, huh? So, I’ll break the list up into a series to avoid a never-ending single post. The categories are Trashy Fun, Comedy, Murder and True Crime, Supernatural and Bizarre, Racial Injustice, History, Book Reviewers, Film, and Dolly Parton’s America. Simply put, a podcast is an audio program, just like Talk Radio, but you subscribe to it on your smartphone and listen to it whenever…

Unexpected gifts that arrive in the mail bring a lot of joy no matter how big or small. I had the fortune of receiving two such gifts recently. Completely out of the blue. It’s even more meaningful with the state the world is in now. We need connection with one another. I’ve even been considering writing letters again. Can’t recall the last time I wrote one. Social media has been a lifesaver, but there’s nothing like a package or letter in the mail. Photo Credit: John Graham My sorority sister and friend, Kristen, creates beauty out of yarn. I enjoy seeing her designs on Facebook as she knits scarves, socks, and more. She even has a loom! Back in October, I received a package in the mail out of the blue that contained this gorgeous scarf. It’s designed with Halloween colors and the edges are shaped like “teeth”! How cool…

STANDS is once again teaming up with the cast and crew of Supernatural for a great cause. Supernatural’s stars regularly use show logos and characters in STANDS merchandise to support non-profits and communities. In the past, they’ve raised money for hunger, hurricane relief, pandemic support, and suicide awareness. Supernatural is the longest running series on the CW network and has given us 15 amazing seasons. It is hands down my absolute favorite show. I’ve purchased quite a bit of their partner STANDS merchandise over the years and been really pleased with it. Personally, I’ll be purchasing the Sam and Dean necklace and the Impala holiday tee. I want to point out that I have no affiliation with Stands other then the fact I love their merchandise. I like to post their promotions because I personally shop with the site and love the shirts I’ve purchased. New! Misha Collins’ “For Love” Tee$25.99 · 100% of profits will benefit True…
I love books and fireplaces and naturally putting them together is a favorite aethetic in any house we live in. Our last house had a fireplace grate in it, and I was not willing to keep cleaning out ash. I really wanted gas logs and finally got them with our new house. I decorated the former fireplace with a black barbeque spray which was a good choice for any new owners of our house, and I displayed books and candles as decor. It was awesome as an everyday look and for Halloween plus Christmas. I put a Santa hat on the skulls. Credit to: Jennifer Graham In the recent newsletter I received from Bookbub they featured these gorgeous fireplaces. Halloween is over so what do you do with your left over Jack-o-lanterns or pumpkins? Quite a lot of things. You can do what our family did in 2011 and host a pumpkin smash-a-thon. We invited friend over, spread a tarp, and beat the snot out of ours! It was fun, but let me tell you it’s not as easy as you think. I suppose you could rig up a giant slingshot like they did in that “Modern Family” episode. Not sure you could use a school’s football field or where you’d get the huge slingshot – more power to you if you do! [envira-gallery id=’5956′] We found some good post-Halloween ideas in: “10 Ways to Recycle Your Pumpkins After Halloween”. Collect the seeds, put them on a pan, drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle with salt, and bake in the oven. Use them as table decoration for Thanksgiving. I often…
Jane Austen is one of my favorite authors, in fact, this blog could easily have been called Austen & Poe in Wonderland. It was a bit wordy and I wanted to focus more on an eclectic blend of topics. I know quite a bit about her life, and I’ve read a majority of her 6 novels (haven’t gotten around to Northanger Abbey). However, I freely admit I don’t know everything. Jane Austen was certainly unique in her time period and remains so today. I picked up 30-Day Journey with Jane Austen today. I bought it months ago but hadn’t read it. Well, I only made it through the introduction and day one of the book before I decided I HAD to share excerpts from it with you. If you enjoy history, hopefully, you’ll like these Austen facts. Fall is the time of year we gather inside with friends and family to share food and drinks by a fire, a table, or while watching a football game. The holidays are fast approaching and swapping gossip or stories over drinks is a favorite past time. In 2020, we might be getting together in smaller groups or sharing our news over Zoom, and we can enjoy some fall cocktail recipes to go along with these occasions. You might serve hot tea with a twist or pour from a pitcher full of spiced sangria, but whatever drinks you choose let them be delicious ones! We’ve found 5 worthy recipes that are easy to make and could become your new favorite. Fall cocktails are here and we’re thinking it’s 5 0’clock somewhere! This post contains affiliate links. I came late to the party on “Hocus Pocos”. Watched it for the first time in 2019. I don’t always want to jump on the bandwagon for a movie simply because everyone else is. So, I resisted for years and could not understand the fever for the Sanderson Sisters. Once I watched it, I was hooked for life. I think we’ve seen it 3 times and will again before Halloween this year. I ran across this today online and thought it would be fun to post for future trivia nights. I fact checked the above and discovered that Garry Marshall who played the Devil was not one of the film’s directors. The movie came out in July to take advantage of kids being out of school. Everything else checked out. One of our favorite scenes – Amok! https://youtu.be/9qwEipKrV-0 Happy Hauntings and enjoy the spooky season!
