I love rings and necklaces. They are my main pieces of jewelry. I wear earrings but keep those simple so when I want to put on rings and necklaces I want them to make a statement. I ran across Mica Bones on Instagram and it was love at first sight. Mica makes unique, one-of-a-kind pieces of jewelry and they are beautiful and bold and definitely make a statement. For the purposes of this post, one-of-a-kind means not mass-produced. She may make more than one piece the same or as a custom order, but you can be assured she isn’t creating hundreds of a particular piece. I was lucky enough to get an interview with this talented silversmith and wanted to feature her work. She’s created 2 custom pieces for me – a ring and a necklace – and I couldn’t be happier with the quality and look of them. My…

I thought it would be a good idea to start the year off with a poem with hopes of all things new. I found this one by Lord Alfred Tennyson, Poet Laureate. He wrote it in 1850 as an elegy or memorium for his sister’s fiance who died at the age of 22. So, full of meaning for him and for us today. It’s about ringing in a new year and the wish that negative things could be rung out or replaced with positive ones. The wish that man could set aside feuding ideologies and hope for a better world. A wish we all can share for any year. This post contains affiliate links. If you click a link and make a purchase, Poe in Wonderland will earn a small commission for the referral at no cost to you. We were curious at this time of year what could be the world’s most expensive Christmas items. So, we did a little research and found 5 things to tell you about – an ugly holiday sweater, advent calendar, Christmas tree, an ornament or bauble, and a dinner sure to satisfy a true epicurean. Personally, we’d take the advent calendar as you’ll read below how special it is. Let’s dive in and see what you could buy if money were no object during Christmas. Some of these things are from 2021 and others from the past according to our research. Most Expensive Advent Calendar In 2021, this Advent calendar weighs a huge 108 pounds and costs $10M+. Designed by Debbie Wingham, a designer who also created the world’s most expensive Christmas tree in 2019. It was commissioned by a Swiss family who wanted to celebrate their upcoming 12 months of travel…

Christmas lights are one of the best parts of the holiday season. Our family has a tradition of getting in the car after dinner and driving around to see favorite light displays from each year and discovering new ones. People can be so creative and put up lights in their yards or join with neighbors to make even bigger lighting events. It’s fun when they add music and you can listen to it in your car. Don’t ask me how they do this because I have no idea! Quite a few of the families who host the light displays raise money and donations for non-profits like the Make a Wish Foundation, Toys for Tots, and food pantries. One family raised over $11,000+ in monetary donations last year! Fantastic. We’re talking about some of the neighborhoods with lights here in Atlanta and surrounding counties including 6 we personally visit every single…

In the Ansley Park neighborhood of Atlanta, Georgia, there’s a gallery open to the public that specializes in photography. The Atlanta Photography Group is a non-profit membership organization and its mission is to promote a love of photography and to support the photography community. The gallery showcases selected works of their member artists. It’s free and open to the public. Exhibits start out with first-night shows and then are displayed for a period of time for you to visit and see them up close and personal. Images are available for purchase and you may find a new artist you love. The gallery is a key piece of this overall organization. But, they do so much more in the artistic community. “APG’s mission is to provide opportunities for photographers to further their artistic development, advance and sustain an inclusive and vibrant photographic community for all individuals interested in contemporary photography, and…

Fall or autumn is my favorite time of year. Last year I even posted about Fall or Autumn: What’s the Difference? I also found a good poem on the season by Emily Bronte: Fall, Leaves, Fall. I love the crisp air, the smell of leaves, pumpkins, fire pits, sweaters, and the other wonderful things that make up this time of year. I found another poem that I like and wanted to share. The Downton Abbey exhibition in Atlanta is currently showing and will be until the beginning of January 2022. My mom and I recently went on a mother-daughter date and toured the exhibition. We didn’t know what to expect. We were joyfully surprised at the authenticity and extent of the show. Downton Abbey for those that don’t know is the most successful PBS series ever. It follows the Crawley family in their daily life on a grand estate in England and covers the time from 1912 to 1927. Starts with the sinking of the Titanic and travels through World War I and early modern times. It’s an epic drama and many of my friends and family have been enthralled with it for years. I’m going to walk you through the exhibit with pictures, and then my mom’s review will be at the end. Don’t worry, I’m not giving everything away about…

Elul 28 ~ Humbert Wolfe In the depth of winter, I finally learned thatwithin me there lay an invincible summer.I know I am but summer to your heart, and not the full four seasons of the year.Spring passes and one remembers one’s innocence.Summer passes and one remembers one’s exuberance.Autumn passes and one remembers one’s reverence.Winter passes and one remembers one’s perseverance.Listen! The wind is rising, and the air is wild with leaves,We have had our summer evenings, now for October eves! This poem may be a collection of authors. The last line is credited…
