The Capturing the Spirit of Oakland tour held at Atlanta’s Oakland Cemetery is back for its 15th year and will be held in person. The tour is one of the most popular events held in Atlanta in October. The spirits of the residents appear on their burial plots to tell you their stories and the history of Georgia during their time on earth. More historical than frightening, it’s an amazing annual opportunity to stroll through the cemetery in the dark with paths lit only by lantern carrying docents and the residents’ plots. The docents and performers are all dressed in period costumes which adds atmosphere to the evening. At night, the backlit city of Atlanta is beautiful to see as you stand among the living and the dead. This will be the 7th time we’ve participated in the tour! In a normal year, we’d drive down into the city and…
The Good News Network is a website dedicated to positive news. It started in 1997 as a way to spread good news as opposed to the heavy focus by the media on negative news. If you’re like us, most of the stories popping up in your news feed tend to be ones that can bring you down if you let them. We want to hear fun, affirming ones that brighten our day and help us see the world as one we want to walk out into. So, we visited the site today and found 4 stories we wanted to share. The Roly Poly Ole Beach Ball in WisconsinA large beach ball escaped a yard and soon tumbled around a town in Wisconsin. The sight of it made residents happy, and they started signing it and moving it from location to location. It’s suffered a few mishaps, but kind people have…
Travel is a passion and one we would love to indulge in more. Currently, we are staying home with all of our school and work, but we long for the open road. I, for one, cannot wait until we can travel again in early fall. Thinking about the wildness of nature we thought of the American essayist, poet, and philosopher Henry David Thoreau. His quotes on nature resonate with us. “Life consists with wildness. The most alive is the wildest. Not yet subdued to man, its presence refreshes him. One who pressed forward incessantly and never rested from his labors, who grew fast and made infinite demands on life, would always find himself in a new country or wilderness, and surrounded by the raw material of life. He would be climbing over the prostrate stems of primitive forest trees.” “I wish to speak a word for Nature, for absolute freedom…

Alice in Wonderland is an enduring tale that began as an oral story on July 4, 1862, and was written and delivered by hand to the original Alice – Alice Liddell – on Christmas in 1864. The real-life story of the book is from a summer’s day where Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (Lewis Carroll) rowed his neighbors the 3 Liddell sisters across a lake with a friend. Alice implored him to entertain them, and so he did with what would become a most famous story. Carroll wrote the tale down and illustrated it as a gift to Alice when she was 12 (possibly 11). The Victorians were fascinated by childlike innocence and you couldn’t find such a nonsensical book without a child. For me, it is one of the earliest memories I have of a favorite book. My mother read it to me. I own a 1976 copy she read from…
Love Pop Flowers make beautifully crafted pop-up cards. Floral bouquets, stationery and sticker cards, Star Wars and Marvel and Disney-themed items. Made of paper, they are intricately laser cut and very detailed. This is a sponsored post on behalf of Love Pop. I decided to do a video review so you can really see them vs. only on their website. I specifically asked for the Cherry Blossom card since I’ve become low-key obsessed with this flower after reading about it in backdrops of book scenes,…

This is a sponsored post on behalf of Storiarts.com. I received the product in exchange for my review but all opinions are my own and not influenced in any way. Being the literature lover that I am, I couldn’t help but be intrigued when I spotted a coffee called Gothic Roast while surfing the Storiarts.com site one day. I’m a fan of their literary items and check their site periodically to see what’s new. They take literary quotes and passages and print them on everything from t-shirts to scarves to blankets and home goods. And then, apparently coffee. I’ve reviewed 3 of their products in the past so I asked them if I could do the same with their new coffee. My suggestion was that I try it with 3 friends as a tasting. They liked the idea and kindly sent their product. The company’s description of their coffee: Our…

My Storiarts tee shirt review was fun. I love tee shirts with a good saying on them. It’s a hobby to collect them and everyone needs a hobby. And, if the purchase of one goes to a good cause even better! This is a sponsored post on behalf of Storiarts.com. I received the product in exchange for this review but all opinions are my own and were not influenced in any way. The company takes literary quotes and showcases them on products for your home, shirts, baby blankets, scarves, headbands, and more. We reviewed their shirts initially when we first discovered them, however, that post was mainly about the variety in shirts and the good cause their company donates to (read about it at the end of this post).
