Recently, my friends came through when I asked them about their favorite podcasts. I have only been into podcasts for the past year. Didn’t care for them at first, but now I regularly listen to a few. I received so many recommendations that I am breaking them down into a series of posts. Good problem to have, huh? So, I’ll break the list up to avoid a never-ending single post. The categories are Trashy Fun, Comedy, Murder and True Crime, Spooky and Supernatural, Racial Injustice, History, Book Reviewers, Film, and Dolly Parton’s America. Connie LaGoy is a Korean American self-taught artist, writer, collector, and owner of Plein de Bonte Studios. She lives in Atlanta, and she first caught our attention when we interviewed the owner of an artist collective and saw her work displayed. Citizen Exchange founder, Amy Barker, saw an original painting of Connie’s that she’d done to raise money to support victims of a horrific crime in the city. Her sorrow and compassion for the families drove her to create her piece “Final Journey”. Limited prints were sold and 100% of the proceeds went to the families. We asked her about this meaningful piece and about her beautiful work. This post contains affiliate links. Oscar Wilde, the venerable Irish poet, and playwright had a lot to say. In the early 1890s, he was one of London’s most popular playwrights. Among his poems and writing, you may know his work from The Picture of Dorian Gray and The Importance of Being Earnest. This post contains affiliate links. I thought about one of his quotes when I’ve considered social skills being rusty after we’ve all been through a pandemic. We’ve been used to our bubbles and much less socializing. With vaccines and careful limits, we’re easing back into interaction. Are our skills rusty? Can knowing a list of ice breakers help? The quote that started me down this path is the one from Wilde: “Conversation about the weather is the last…

Atlanta, GeorgianThe Georgian Terrace HotelOne of our favorite places to stay in Georgia. This modern classic hotel was built in 1911, and stands on a famous corner in Atlanta on Peachtree Street. Located across from the Fox Theatre, it’s seen a great deal of history in Midtown. A luxury hotel that regularly hosts weddings and important public events where you can stay in a fabulous suite with city views. They even allow for dogs and what luxury hotel does this? We try to stay at least once a year, especially at Christmas with its beautifully decorated lobby. Looking for a dessert that’s a little sweet and lemony to take to your holiday get together or enjoy at home with family? My friend Sarah from That Lemonade Life blog has a delicious lemon bread recipe that she’s graciously allowed us to share on our blog. It’s simple to make and we are all about simple desserts. Credit: That Lemonade Life Sarah says that this recipe reminds her of lemon bread she made growing up and gives her cozy memories. Comfort food. “Lemon is one of my favorite flavors, very close up there or maybe even equal to chocolate! And lemon bread in particular is delicious in my opinion. It’s more a cross between bread and a cake, kind…

The Sleeper BY EDGAR ALLAN POE At midnight, in the month of June,I stand beneath the mystic moon.An opiate vapor, dewy, dim,Exhales from out her golden rim,And softly dripping, drop by drop,Upon the quiet mountain top,Steals drowsily and musicallyInto the universal valley. The rosemary nods upon the grave; The lily lolls upon the wave;Wrapping the fog about its breast,The ruin moulders into rest;Looking like Lethe, see! the lakeA conscious slumber seems to take,And would not, for the world, awake. All Beauty sleeps!—and lo! where liesIrene, with her Destinies! Oh, lady bright! can it be right—This window open to the night? The wanton airs, from the tree-top,Laughingly through the lattice drop—The bodiless airs, a wizard rout,Flit through thy chamber in and out,And wave the curtain canopySo fitfully—so fearfully—Above the closed and fringéd lid’Neath which thy slumb’ring soul lies hid,That, o’er the floor and down the wall,Like ghosts the shadows rise and fall!Oh, lady dear, hast thou…

A partially abandoned building stood on a wide block of real estate on historic Ponce de Leon Avenue in Atlanta for decades. It had been through numerous reincarnations. Vandalized and in major disrepair, it stood. I’d pass it several times a day going to work, and then later shopping or riding with my kiddos. I saw it as a hulking behemoth with an Atlanta police station and lots of broken windows next to what was known as the “Murder Kroger” for reasons evident in its name. Only a few not a lot, but I digress. Development came along “Ponce”, and Ponce City Market was born. Even after celebrating my 50th birthday on the rooftop at the market, I still cannot believe it’s there born out of the messy place that it was. This post contains affiliate links.
