Savannah, Georgia never disappoints us with the city's hospitality. From the accommodations to the restaurants to the haunted ghost tours, all of the experiences with the staff are great. We love going to the city and we have a lot of recommendations for you from where to stay to where to shop. Poe in Wonderland is all about travel.

Where to Stay
We like to stay at the Planters Inn. You can read our review of the hotel here from a few summers ago. Below is a video I shot of their lobby this past June. It really is a beautiful place.
Hampton Inn Historic District is also a great place to book as you're right on the riverfront.
Where to Eat
Where to eat in Savannah? Too many good places to name. We always start on our first night at Moon River Brewing Company. It's famous as one of the most haunted places in America. They serve delicious bar food and drinks. I liked their Lemon Mules in the copper mugs. We stop here first because you don't have to have a reservation and usually the line to get in isn't too bad. You can sit back and enjoy your drinks while watching a lot of the haunted ghost tours line up outside. It's a popular starting off point for them. It's especially fun to watch around Halloween. If you're going to Moon River, I highly recommend their tacodillas – cheese quesadillas folded like tacos with beef brisket, pico de gallo, and ranch dressing. So good! My husband likes their burgers too.
More great places to dine are on this list. We've either eaten at these restaurants or friends have and referred us.
The Olde Pink House
The Pirate's House – pretty haunted
Common on Broughton – brunch
Treylor Park
The Grey Market open 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM
Chive Sea Bar and Lounge
Mansion on Forsyth – elegant dining
Where to Shop
We found this charming shop located at 207 E. River Street while roaming the waterfront. I'm not a huge Christmas shopper but found a lot of things I loved. They have everything from traditional ornaments to skull ones to cocktail tea towels to advent calendars. It's fun to browse and even better to buy.
Shopping or watching the nightlife on E. River Street is a big part of your experience in Savannah. You usually see singers and street performers.
Where to Tour
You can't visit Savannah, one of the most haunted cities, without taking a ghost tour. It's not done. We've been on about 5 over the years. This past visit we took the Bad Kitty Haunted Pub Crawl based on a friend's referral. It was fun but not for kids, adults only. First of all, your guide might show up in hot pants and torn fishnet stockings. Second, there are more lurid ghost stories complete with not safe for work language. And finally, you guessed it by the title, you're going in bar after bar and getting a drink while you're entertained.
The next to last stop of our Bad Kitty tour was the 17Hundred90 Inn and Restaurant. It is famous for being extremely haunted by the ghost of Anna who’s generally a friendly spirit, a boy named Thaddeus, and a less friendly spirit in the kitchen area. By the time you hit the bar at this place the restaurant's probably closed, but you can get your drink. I can't remember the name of the cocktail I had but it's their muddled lemonade or punch. If you want a strong drink, then this is the one! You'll wrap up the tour outside Colonial Park Cemetery and it's pretty atmospheric and perfect for the end of the night's storytelling.
Savannah's definitely a destination city with lots of activities. Plan your trip or just go and ask anyone who works at your hotel or staff in a restaurant because odds are you'll get a great tip on what to do and where to go eat. As we said at the start of the post, the city has wonderful hospitality. Looking for even more information for your trip? Check out our post on Fun Ways to Tour Savannah.
