Marvelous Monday is our brand spanking new name for our former “Monday Madness” feature. Madness was a play on the Mad Hatter’s tea party from Alice in Wonderland. We don’t want readers to mistake the feature and view it in a negative light so we thought a change would be needed. The goal, however, remains the same. This post contains affiliate links. If you click a link and make a purchase, Poe in Wonderland will earn a small commission for the referral at no cost to you. Marvelous Monday is here! The concept is simple and stress-free. I’m inviting my tea party friends – readers and friends – to post good things in their life on Mondays. Grab a macaroon and a cup of tea and join us. Or a cupcake. Whatever suits your fancy. Let’s dish! This week we’re talking about a popular resource for bloggers. The Thrive Blogging…
Part of the joy of being a blogger is spending time in coffee houses working. I recently visited a cafe in Lawrenceville, Georgia that has a relaxing vibe and cats. Yes, 4 cats live in the cafe and you can pet them and hang out. The Catfe is located in an older, beautifully decorated house – a little oasis in itself. This post contains affiliate banner links. Love all things fall? My friend Sarah from That Lemonade Life wrote about 6 wonderful, fun traditions her friends celebrate every year. We were lucky enough to be included with our Halloween Tours at Oakland Cemetery tradition. Take the time to read Sarah’s article because you might want to start incorporating these ideas into your own favorite season. Men in Kilts: A Roadtrip with Sam and Graham is a series on the Starz channel that features actors – Sam Heughan and Graham McTavish – from the show Outlander. For those that don’t know, Outlander tells the story of two lovers, their adventures in history, and time travel. Yes, based on the Diana Gabaldon novel it involves time travel. Scotland is a major player in the novel and tv show and this road trip series is about these actors exploring Scotland and all its traditions. It came out in March, I recorded it, and am only now watching it. You can probably find it on demand or online. The scenery is absolutely beautiful. This post contains affiliate links. This is a sponsored post on behalf of KittyNook. I received the product in exchange for this review but all opinions are my own and were not influenced in any way. KittyNook is an online pet store for cats with toys, harnesses, walking leashes, bowls, beds, and more. Their website blog offers posts about International Cat Day, cat health, safety, and ways you can play with and enrich their lives. We have two cat rescues here at Poe in Wonderland – Zazzles (tortoiseshell) and Binx (jet black). I and all three of my sons volunteered for 11 years with one of the southeast’s largest pet organizations Furkids. To say we like cats is an understatement. Recently, we saw a spooky Halloween shirt with a black cat and a smart robot-like cat laser toy we had to try. Zazzles and Binx First, we’ll show you the unboxing of the Invigorating Cat…
The Capturing the Spirit of Oakland tour held at Atlanta’s Oakland Cemetery is back for its 15th year and will be held in person. The tour is one of the most popular events held in Atlanta in October. The spirits of the residents appear on their burial plots to tell you their stories and the history of Georgia during their time on earth. More historical than frightening, it’s an amazing annual opportunity to stroll through the cemetery in the dark with paths lit only by lantern carrying docents and the residents’ plots. The docents and performers are all dressed in period costumes which adds atmosphere to the evening. At night, the backlit city of Atlanta is beautiful to see as you stand among the living and the dead. This will be the 7th time we’ve participated in the tour! In a normal year, we’d drive down into the city and…
I am not a chef so I like cooking to be simple and contain a limited amount of ingredients. If a recipe is fast and delicious, well then those are bonuses too. A neighbor brought this dish to us when we had our third baby. Four easy ingredients and you can serve it with sour cream – which is yummy mixed with the sauce – and a salad. It’s a basic entree that you can flavor with different salsas, veggies, or anything chopped you like. This post contains affiliate links. Recently, my friends came through when I asked them about their favorite podcasts. I have only been into podcasts for the past year. Didn’t care for them at first, but now I regularly listen to a few. I received so many recommendations that I am breaking them down into a series of posts. Good problem to have, huh? So, I’ll break the list up to avoid a never-ending single post. The categories are Trashy Fun, Comedy, Murder and True Crime, Spooky and Supernatural, Racial Injustice, History, Book Reviewers, Film, and Dolly Parton’s America. The Good News Network is a website dedicated to positive news. It started in 1997 as a way to spread good news as opposed to the heavy focus by the media on negative news. If you’re like us, most of the stories popping up in your news feed tend to be ones that can bring you down if you let them. We want to hear fun, affirming ones that brighten our day and help us see the world as one we want to walk out into. So, we visited the site today and found 4 stories we wanted to share. The Roly Poly Ole Beach Ball in WisconsinA large beach ball escaped a yard and soon tumbled around a town in Wisconsin. The sight of it made residents happy, and they started signing it and moving it from location to location. It’s suffered a few mishaps, but kind people have…
Travel is a passion and one we would love to indulge in more. Currently, we are staying home with all of our school and work, but we long for the open road. I, for one, cannot wait until we can travel again in early fall. Thinking about the wildness of nature we thought of the American essayist, poet, and philosopher Henry David Thoreau. His quotes on nature resonate with us. “Life consists with wildness. The most alive is the wildest. Not yet subdued to man, its presence refreshes him. One who pressed forward incessantly and never rested from his labors, who grew fast and made infinite demands on life, would always find himself in a new country or wilderness, and surrounded by the raw material of life. He would be climbing over the prostrate stems of primitive forest trees.” “I wish to speak a word for Nature, for absolute freedom…
