New Year's Eve is one of my favorite holidays. I love the thought of a brand new year that starts at midnight of the last one. And the champagne. Always champagne. I usually post literary quotes or about new year traditions from around the world, but this time I thought I'd share random ideas I had for a year's recipe. It's ABC's so to speak. Some simple thoughts – not reinventing the wheel just thinking of things to put on it. However you celebrate, I hope you have a bright, shiny new year!

A
Pick a day to abandon your cares and woes and do what you want.

B
Books always make you happy. Reading is pretty much the answer to everything.

C
Create something for yourself or others. Create even if you’re the only one who sees it. Just create.

D
Doodle and write when you can. It might turn into an idea.

E
Expect good things.

F
Focus on what’s around you so you notice things. Yes, the stars.

G
Practice gratefulness each day for things no matter how small. There will be days where it is hard to find one thing but that one thing can bring you through.

H
Happiness: Spread it where you can.

I
Ideas are fuel. Let them percolate and don’t be afraid of “bad” ones. They might be your most creative ones.

J
Find joy in your day. Even drinking tea from a china cup in the morning.

K
Spread kindness intentionally. A smile at someone, waving at a neighbor and holding the door open for a stranger at the store. No act is too small.

L
Laugh at the absurdity of life. Think of Alice and her tea party.

M
Make time for your friends. Keep that coffee, lunch, dinner, or FaceTime date.

N
Nature is one of the most effective stress reducers. A simple walk can change things.

O
Odd things can be the best things.

P
Patience is a virtue. Remind yourself it is a work in progress and at times can be hard to find.

Q
Quality: Replace some of those so-so ingredients with quality ones.

R
Reward yourself with books, chocolate, shoes or whatever you fancy. Rewards are good.

S
Satisfaction can be hard to find so celebrate it when it happens.

T
Try something even if you fail.

U
Use your gifts to make the world a happier place.

V
Use your voice and talk to others. The pandemic has made our social skills rusty. Start with a hello. Ask others how they are. Tell others how you feel. It doesn’t have to be life-altering conversation. It's about connection to the world.

W
Write it down. It could be the beginning of an idea.

X
You don’t have to be an expert at everything (see what we did there?). Refer back to “T”.

Y
You have a brand new year to try new things.

Z
Zenith: Plan something for a week, month, or a holiday and enjoy everything it offers from start to finish

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
