This is a sponsored post on behalf of KittyNook. I received the product in exchange for this review but all opinions are my own and were not influenced in any way. KittyNook is an online pet store for cats with toys, harnesses, walking leashes, bowls, beds, and more. Their website blog offers posts about International Cat Day, cat health, safety, and ways you can play with and enrich their lives. We have two cat rescues here at Poe in Wonderland – Zazzles (tortoiseshell) and Binx (jet black). I and all three of my sons volunteered for 11 years with one of the southeast’s largest pet organizations Furkids. To say we like cats is an understatement. We have an earlier post you can read here where we tried out their laser cat toy. We were so pleased with it that we wanted to test out another one. So, Zazzles and Binx tried the Mr.…

It’s a brand new year and all about resolutions. I’m not big on listing resolutions, but I have been mulling this post over for several months. I like the idea of shaping your life to make it fuller and full of wonder. Of doing those things that you know will make you content. Someone once told me that striving for contentment is easier to achieve than overall happiness. Happiness as a feeling…
New Year’s Eve is one of my favorite holidays. I love the thought of a brand new year that starts at midnight of the last one. And the champagne. Always champagne. I usually post literary quotes or about new year traditions from around the world, but this time I thought I’d share random ideas I had for a year’s recipe. It’s ABC’s so to speak. Some simple thoughts – not reinventing the wheel just thinking of things to put on it. However you celebrate, I hope you have a bright, shiny new year! A Pick a day to abandon your cares and woes and do what you want. B Books always make you happy. Reading is pretty much the answer to everything. C Create something for yourself or others. Create even if you’re the only one who sees it. Just create. D Doodle and write when you can. It might…
We were curious at this time of year what could be the world’s most expensive Christmas items. So, we did a little research and found 5 things to tell you about – an ugly holiday sweater, advent calendar, Christmas tree, an ornament or bauble, and a dinner sure to satisfy a true epicurean. Personally, we’d take the advent calendar as you’ll read below how special it is. Let’s dive in and see what you could buy if money were no object during Christmas. Some of these things are from 2021 and others from the past according to our research. Most Expensive Advent Calendar In 2021, this Advent calendar weighs a huge 108 pounds and costs $10M+. Designed by Debbie Wingham, a designer who also created the world’s most expensive Christmas tree in 2019. It was commissioned by a Swiss family who wanted to celebrate their upcoming 12 months of travel…
GivingTuesday is a day to give back to the greater good. We featured this movement a year ago to spread the word about 4 nonprofits making a difference in their community, and we want to tell you about them again while adding an additional cause. Three animal organizations, a way to give support to restaurant workers, and improvements for a historical cemetery. GivingTuesday simply put is a day to encourage people to do good. GivingTuesday is a movement that began in 2012 where an idea formed of giving back to your community in mass on the 1st Tuesday after Thanksgiving every year. It started small but has now expanded all over the United States, and “to date, GivingTuesday activities have been tracked in nearly every country and territory, and over 60 of these countries are home to national GivingTuesday movements of their own.” Source: GivingTuesday.org There are MANY ways you can give back…
October brings a return to the spooky season and who better to visit with than the trio of Sanderson sisters from Disney’s Hocus Pocus? If you love Winifred, Mary, and Sarah and their evil designs on Salem, you might want to discover a sweeter side to them with these secret menu Starbucks frappuccinos. And, let us say that secret drinks at Starbucks are fascinating. Anyone try the unicorn one when it was out (maybe it still is)? This post contains affiliate links. Marvelous Monday is our brand spanking new name for our former “Monday Madness” feature. Madness was a play on the Mad Hatter’s tea party from Alice in Wonderland. We don’t want readers to mistake the feature and view it in a negative light so we thought a change would be needed. The goal, however, remains the same. This post contains affiliate links. If you click a link and make a purchase, Poe in Wonderland will earn a small commission for the referral at no cost to you. Marvelous Monday is here! The concept is simple and stress-free. I’m inviting my tea party friends – readers and friends – to post good things in their life on Mondays. Grab a macaroon and a cup of tea and join us. Or a cupcake. Whatever suits your fancy. Let’s dish! This week we’re talking about a popular resource for bloggers. The Thrive Blogging…
The Good News Network is a website dedicated to positive news. It started in 1997 as a way to spread good news as opposed to the heavy focus by the media on negative news. If you’re like us, most of the stories popping up in your news feed tend to be ones that can bring you down if you let them. We want to hear fun, affirming ones that brighten our day and help us see the world as one we want to walk out into. So, we visited the site today and found 4 stories we wanted to share. The Roly Poly Ole Beach Ball in WisconsinA large beach ball escaped a yard and soon tumbled around a town in Wisconsin. The sight of it made residents happy, and they started signing it and moving it from location to location. It’s suffered a few mishaps, but kind people have…
